On Friday, June 20th, our agency gathered for World Refugee Day, an annual celebration created by the United Nations to honor the strength, courage, and contributions of refugees and immigrants from around the globe.

Thanks to Springfield Jewish Community Center, who generously opened their summer camp space for us just days before campers arrived, we were able to host this year’s gathering in a safe and welcoming environment for both our staff and the communities we serve.

Our multilingual staff kicked the day off with brief welcoming remarks in many languages followed by a brief speech from Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants. Ronnie Millar, Director of Strategic Initiatives, who presented our CEO, Rabbi James Greene, with the Governor’s Proclamation recognizing World Refugee Day and commending JFSWM’s work in welcoming New Americans.

It was a joyful afternoon packed with activities, from arts and crafts to soccer, field day games, balloon animals, face painting, and even a glitter tattoo station. The parachute game was a crowd favorite, and everyone enjoyed ice cream from the Ice Cream Emergency food truck.

We are proud to stand with refugees, not just in their struggles, but in their successes, celebrations and everyday joy. Thank you to all who made this day unforgettable.
