Over the past four months, JFS has resettled 148 Afghan evacuees, 27 to Framingham in partnership with JFS of Metrowest, 29 to the Berkshires. JFS also resettled 16 refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, and El Salvador. Our work with Afghan evacuees has been aided tremendously by the efforts of ten HOST teams–6 in the Berkshires, 3 in the Springfield area, and one in Amherst. Each is assigned one family, and helps with health, housing, employment, education, and connecting with their new community. Five Afghan families also welcomed new babies this fall, and we have three more moms expecting. We are excited to support these families as they grow, and as they learn about and find their feet in Western Mass.
