JFS recently welcomed Gabriela Sheehan as our first JFS Berkshires Resettlement Coordinator, as well as Sarah Husain, our new case manager in the Berkshires. Gabriela hit the ground running, facilitating the reception and placement of 29 individuals (6 families) from Afghanistan, including coordinating with legal, housing, education, government, advocacy, and social service agencies and businesses to advance opportunities for refugees to survive, integrate and thrive in Berkshire County.
Gabriela has also been working closely with our volunteer leaders and organizations taking part in resettlement efforts, along with Sarah who has assumed the work of attending to our families in every aspect of resettlement. Our tireless Berkshire HOST teams have been assisting with appointments, groceries, registration, transportation and utilities, and ESL classes have begun in partnership with Berkshire Community College.
