JFS IS PROUD TO PARTNER WITH MUSIC IN COMMON TO OFFER EXPERIENTIAL MULTI-CULTURAL MUSIC PROGRAM TO NEW AMERICAN YOUTH
Springfield- Jewish Family Service of Western Massachusetts is excited to be a community organization to partner with Music in Common to bring an experiential interfaith music program to refugee, immigrant and American-born youth in Springfield.
Music in Common is a non-profit organization that empowers diverse cultures and faiths to discover common ground through collaborative songwriting and multimedia. Their signature JAMMS (Journalism as Music, Multimedia and Songwriting) program brings together youth to work with industry professionals to write, record, and perform a song and create a video project. In addition to learning technical and creative skills, participants develop the important life skills of collaboration, communication and teamwork. They also learn about each other’s faiths and cultures and the commonalities they share.
This three day in-depth program will start August 21-23, 2017 with a 6:00PM performance on August 23rd at The Bing Arts Center, 716 Sumner Ave., Springfield, MA that is free and open to the public.
The upcoming program will be led by Music in Common lead program facilitators Todd Mack, Lynnette Najimy and Marisa Massery.
Thanks to generous support from the Daughters of the Heart of Mary, JFS and The Bing Arts Center, sixteen refugee youth will be participating in the program free of charge this summer.
