Springfield- To celebrate World Refugee Day, join Jewish Family Service of Western Massachusetts (JFS) on Tuesday, June 20 at 5:30pm in the Trinity United Methodist Church Auditorium, 361 Sumner Avenue, Springfield for “Salam Neighbor” a documentary film about life in a Syrian refugee camp just inside the Jordanian border. As the first filmmakers allowed by the United Nations to register and set-up a tent inside a refugee camp, Chris Temple and Zach Ingrasci uncover inspiring stories of individuals rallying, against all odds, to rebuild their lives and those of their neighbors.

The screening will be followed by a discussion and update on refugee resettlement both locally and nationally with JFS CEO Maxine Stein and JFS New American Program Director, Deirdre Griffin.

“World Refugee Day is an important opportunity for all of us to learn about the experiences of people displaced by violence around the world. The more we know about the journeys and courage of our refugee neighbors, the more we realize that we all belong to each other and that each of us has the power to help heal the world and ourselves, person by person, right here in our own neighborhood. I hope you will join us for this community gathering!” said Deirdre.

Light refreshments will be served. Free admission. Attendees are welcome to bring donations of toiletries to benefit new American families served by JFS. Questions? Call 413.737.2601.
